As I’m typing this, I wonder, what am I trying to do here? I’m still not entirely sure what my plan is for this blog. I have six other posts sitting in draft form, half completed because either I don’t know if it feels relevant to what I’m going for. Should I do explanation of security configurations, TryHackMe walkthroughs, and/or a little bit of everything tech-y that I’m into? Anyway, since I haven’t posted in a while I wanted to get something up.
It’s the end of April, which for me means the completion of another term at WGU. For my third term I managed to complete seven courses and 26 CUs. That puts me at 61% completed with my BS degree and about one year out from completing the program. I have 12 classes left, which means I can take one class per month and be on schedule to finish in April of 2023.
As I progress in my career, I try to keep up with what employers require. Even if I’m not actively looking for a job I want to stay up to date with what makes me marketable at the next level. I’ve noticed that it’s no longer really expected to just do security. Pretty much everything past a mid-level role wants someone who can code as well. After analyzing what that means by looking at the types of jobs I would want, I’ve decided to learn JavaScript. In between my WGU classes, I’ve also enrolled in a Udemy course called The Complete JavaScript Course 2022: From Zero to Expert! It’s 69 hours and so far I like Jonas’ teaching style and the way he explains things. I guess once I’m an expert I’ll learn Git and create a cybersecurity projects space.
